We don’t play for adoration, we don’t play for victory. We’re just a bunch of old blokes who, in many cases, left the sport too early and regret it; hence our second coming
Everyone involved in the Lions Vets has a history of playing for Westwood. The Westwood name is as strong in our squad as that of the Lions, but we are moving forward as has the rest of the club and hope to bring a smile to a few faces by playing running, fast flowing rugby or not, depending on how drunk we were the night before (usually very speaking for myself).
It is our intention to put some money behind the bar, to entertain and to have a bit of a laugh down the club. We want to bring back the old school singing and vomiting routines of yesteryear and I have to say the response is amazing.
We will be supporting the Lions Third XV and Development sides when we are not playing, and also want to forge strong links with Boro and Thorney Vets. We will only play once a month and so have opened pathways for the more enterprising amongst us to continue playing on a more frequent basis if they so wish.
I would urge the First XV to pay us great notice and respect because while they are playing a higher league than we ever have, we are still out there and will drink them under the table any day of any week of any month.
Come on you Lions !
