It’s the beginning of the end for Northern Star tomorrow (Tuesday, April 15).

Star travel to struggling Harborough as they begin a run of three games in the space of just six days to bring the curtain down on the United Counties League Premier Division campaign.

They then travel to Long Buckby on Saturday (April 19) before the season comes to a spectacular end with a derby duel against Yaxley at Chestnut Avenue on Easter Monday (April 21, noon kick-off).

And the challenge for the Star lads side is simple – stretch their unbeaten run to seven games to challenge for a seventh-placed finish.

Co-boss Darren Jarvis, whose side are currently ninth, said: “We feel we have an outside chance of grabbing seventh place in the table and that would be a satisfying finish after a season which can basically be split into thirds.

“We started positively with some great results against very good sides in the league and cup competitions before enduring an indifferent middle part of the season when we were guilty of dropping a number of points to sides that we expected to pick up better results against.

“We’re now in the process of delivering a strong finish and need to ensure that continues through the final three games in the next few days.”
Star are without top scorer Nick Davey due to work commitments for the second successive match.

Defender Matt Porter also misses out due to a family commitment but his absence gives Joe Hopewell a route back into the side at left-back following an injury lay-off with a fractured thumb.

Reserves talents, goalkeeper Dan George, right-back Wilkins Makate and frontman Josh Sanders are all expected to keep their places after impressing in recent games.

Sanders hit the winner as Star became only the third team to beat local rivals Huntingdon last Tuesday.
