With players combining from the three regular Senior squads, plus a sprinkling of Vets, and important league matches this weekend, this match was never going to be easy for Field and so it proved as they were soundly beaten by 51 - 12 by a Navy development squad.
The meaty matelots were imperious in the first half, running in a half-dozen or so tries in the first half courtesy of their powerful and pacy back line. They didn't have the half completely to themselves, 3rd XV player Lee Jones - always a pleasure to watch in action - crossing for an Petersfield try, unconverted.
The second half was a much more even affair, Field tightened up their play and had several extended periods of pressure in the Navy's half and 22. The red team finally converted one sortie into a try in the final moments of the match, taking the small comfort of ensuring that they were not completely shut out in either half; Ryan Morse essayed a trademark bullocking drive from a couple of metres out and Josh Haslett put in a terrific conversion from wide on the left.
While the score was racking up on the pitch, the money was piling up at the Clubhouse. With temperatures a little milder than they had been of late, there was a handsome turnout from the local area and beyond. The crowd - some of whom had attended the pre-match charity supper - were as generous in their donations to charity as they were to the players putting on a display for their enjoyment. At the end of the evening, the event had raised some £2,400 which was split evenly between the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and the Rosemary Foundation.

In addition to the money raised at the Charity match, the Club also presented a cheque to the Rosemary Foundation for the £4,000 raised in May's 1664 Yomp - a test of leg- and will-power that takes its participants on a 166.4 kilometer hike in just 30-hours. The challenge was completed by just six people this year, two of whom were from PRFC - Rachel Lewis & Allan McManus!
