It is very much a testament to how far the club has progressed when following our 92nd minute equaliser, against a side in the top half of the league, the boys were deflated in the dressing room. Only six months ago going behind after being in front would most likely have led to a collapse in moral and spirit which would have seen us suffer a heavy defeat. Saturday however the dressing room was very subdued as all reflected on a game that slipped from our grasp. In the first half we witnessed a very competitive encounter and while good chances were rare the chances that did evolve did so in our favour and in truth when the breakthrough did come it was no great shock that it was in our favour with only 5 minutes of the half to play Keegan Hepplestone raced through on goal and fired home from around ten yards.
Having held the lead to the break it was expected that our boys would push on and round off the game, however Hatfield had other intentions, the second half saw a continuation of the pacy play though when the game's second goal came it was no real surprise that it was the visitors equaliser, some neat play down their left saw James Bytheway meet a low cross at the front post and in truth, fair warning had been served with Matt Dalton being called on a couple of times beforehand.
The following period was a reasonably well matched encounter with little serious threat being posed on either goal, until that is, the 77th minute when having survived a contained goal mouth scramble a Hatfield ball over the top wasn't cleared despite there being a few opportunities to do so, this allowed Mitch Wain to put Hatfield in front,
As said earlier this setback six months ago would have drained the Phoenix spirit however such is the resolve in the current squad, defeat wasn't considered an option and though it was late coming the Phoenix leveller did come when with 92 minutes on the clock centre back Joe Storey forced the ball home.
The hosts did have one final contentious moment to survive when a Hatfield player went down inside the hosts box however the referee did see it as the dive that is was and waved play on.
