Phoenix began the game with some excellent play in the forwards make good progress with the pods up the middle and winning most of the scrums and lineouts as well as successful being able to get it out on the back line.

Phoenix saw some fantastic play and the team were at times near enough on the try line. Hanwells strong defence was proving difficult to breach and eventually turn over ball allowed them to spread the play to their impressive back line.

Pattern of the game was plenty of pressure and possession from the home side and counter attack from the away side the later proving the difference and ticking the scoreboard over.

Impressive man of the match performance by Keith Nash who began his Phoenix rugby career in style kept the pack moving forward.

It was fantastic to see so many new players at Phoenix coming together for the first time and being really able to show their skills off in particular Robbie Henwood, Eddie Craft, Charlie Russell.

Charlie Russell, first game ever in rugby showed some immense effort which made him break through Hanwells defence line and scoring his first try of the season for the Phoenix followed by the conversion from Paul Byrne.

Some amazing effort from all and shows real promise for the league season. As always with any side there are some improvements that we can make but yesterday spirits were extremely high, Paul and I were extremely pleased with the progress the team have made through training and were proud to lead the second team squad.
