Competitive match

Pickering Town under 9s 2 Rufforth United under 9s 1

Pickering finished the league season with a great performance against a good Rufforth team that were 5th in the league coming into the match. The match was play in breezy conditions and Pickering made the most of have the wind at their backs in the first half. The home side took the lead mid-way through the half when a long range free kick from Charlie Hancock caused confusion in the Rufforth goal area allowing Isaac Finch to shot hard and low into the net. Pickering soon doubled their lead when a long throw by Finch found Morgan Kendrew free in the box and the young striker made no mistake with a good finish. Rufforth pulled a goal back just before the break when a long range effort took a big deflection just in front of Harry Edwards in the Pickering goal leaving him totally wrong footed.

The second half was a very different affair with Rufforth now enjoying the increasing breezy conditions. The whole Pickering team worked hard as a unit to put in an impressive defensive performance that resulted in Rufforth’s main chances coming from long range efforts and only time they got behind the Pickering defenders Edwards saved well with his feet. The performance was typified by Jack Cleary who playing up front held the ball up well when in possession, hassled the Rufforth defenders when Pickering lost the ball and chased back into midfield to put in some crunching tackles.

Team: Billy Fewster, Charlie Hancock, George Hodgson, Harry Edwards, Isaac Finch, Jack Cleary, Jamie Atkinson, Morgan Kendrew.

Friendly match

Pickering Town under 9s 0 Rufforth United under 9s 3

The last match of the season saw some unusual/experimental line ups including Jamie Atkinson playing midfield for the second half having spent all season in his own half of the pitch and Charlie Monkman running down the right wing again after spending most of the season as a rock solid defender rarely venturing into the opposition half.

Rufforth took a half time lead following a good run and finish by their left winger.

Pickering started the second half well and had a couple of chances to equalise. First Daniel Ray narrowly failed to make contact with a Charlie Hancock cross and then Thomas Warriner had a chance following a Billy Fewster burst from the back. Rufforth gained the upper hand as the half progressed and Harry Edwards made 2 good saves before he was beaten late on by 2 good goals.

Team: Harry Edwards, Jamie Atkinson, Billy Fewster, Finlay Johnson, Daniel Ray, Toby Dale, Charlie Hancock, Charlie Monkman, Thomas Warriner.
