Webber was named on Thursday morning by England as the substitute hooker for Saturday's Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland (kick off 5.00 pm).
Webber, the former Pocklington RUFC and Pocklington School player, was
originally one of three hookers in the squad but is now selected on the replacement's bench for the Scotland game, the first time he has been in England's senior matchday 22 after playing for his country at every level below full international. The news also broke on Tuesday that Webber is moving clubs to Bath next season after six years with London Wasps.
Meanwhile, elder brother Mat Webber will lead an unchanged Pocklington
1st XV at Scarborough on Saturday. Charlie Rook, the Londesborough
Park cricket captain, retains his place on the bench after making his
debut last week. When the sides met earlier in the season at Feathers
Field Pocklington edged a close game 19-14.
While Pocklington 1st XV have been moving up the Yorkshire One table
into second place, the Panthers have quietly establishing themselves in
second in the East Yorkshire Merit Premier Division. The Panthers had a
good win over York 2nds last Saturday and they are at home again this
week to Scarborough Vikings. The 2.15 kick off for both the 1st XV at
Scarborough and Panthers at Percy Road mean everyone will be able to
see the England-Scotland game on TV in the clubhouse afterwards.
Pocklington U16s are at home to York on Sunday (11.00 am).
