Webber in England Squad

Former Pocklington player Rob Webber is one of three hookers named in the 32-man England squad for the forthcoming Sx Nations Championship.

Webber began his rugby career at Pocklington as a mini rugby scrum half and played a handful of first team games for the club before moving south to Wasps in 2004.

He still keeps close ties with the club, where his father Mike played in the 1970s and 80s, elder brother Mat is current 1st XV skipper, and mother Gwen cooks the lunches every Sunday. He has been back to Percy Road to support the 1st XV severa times this season, the most recent being just before Christmas.

Rob played in every England age group team while still at Pocklington, and played for the senior side in non-cap games in Australia and New Zealand in 2010, but then missed most of last season with two torn biceps. He has bounced back this term to be an ever present for Wasps in the Premiership. After the announcement of the England squad he said: "It's a huge honour to even be considered to be named the squad and I am really proud to be there. There are some very talented players competing in my position so I have my work cut out, but I recognise what a big opportunity this is for me and one I am hoping I can take with both hands. I am extremely grateful to be given a shot and I will give it my very best."
