So close for young guns in Semi Final

In what could possibly be the biggest game of the year so far the Piranhas welcomed Burley to the Amazon. Mossy won the toss (as usual) and batted first as the lads have done very well setting a score. Jay Z and Will Coops opened up.

The lads wasted no time in making runs and they reached 50-0 off 5 overs. Coops was then caught for a well made 21 off 19 balls with the score on 60. Belly was in 3 but then Jay Z was run out for 33 a few balls later. Dingle in at 4 and the 2 lefty handers put on 20 in no time before Charlie was caught for 12 off just 4 balls.

Cam Duncan batted 5 however his stay was brief as he was bowled for 0. Mickey Hutchins in next and his stay was even shorter who also made 0. Dingle played well hitting boundaries when he could. The pitch was a bit softer than the usual road at Arthington Lane so runs were tough to come by.

Ollie Boggie in next who made 2 and then Adil Mehmood soon followed him back making 1. Wickets were falling at regular intervals and Dingle was running out of partners. Mossy made 2 and Henry Boggie made 0. Will Pallister ended up 2 not out and Dingle hit the last ball for 6 to take the Piranhas to 142-9 with Dingle 49no.

The lads took the field and Jay Z bowled the first over with Dingle taking the other end. Dingle made the break with a ball that had moon dust on it which fell into the hands of Will P who took a blinder. Mossy replaced Jay Z and bowled very tight whilst Ollie Boggie replaced Dingle. Boggie was mega unlucky not to have 2 LBW's as they both seemed very adjacent. The away umpire not giving him a look and the 2 lads put on 50 for the 2nd wicket.

Jay Z returned and took the wicket that was needed to give the Piranhas a boost. A solid catch by Belly at long on made it 72-2 at halfway. Jay Z grabbed another with some pressure rising bowling Nick Brook. Will P changed Boggie and Henry Boggie changed Jay Z after a good spell.

Unfortunately the boys leaked runs and after a couple of expensive overs the rate reduced rapidly. Will P bowling a really good length and rushing the batsman. Belly came on for a token over and snared a wicket with a great catch by Adil. Will then got in on the action and grabbed a wicket however it was a little to late. Burley knocked the runs off with 2 overs left and the lads were out of the comp.

However after a Churchillian speech by Mossy the boys will be proud. I'm sure i don't speak for myself when i say it's been a pleasure playing with a young, talented group of lads who are the future of this club (me being the oldest!) Over the last few years we have struggled to raise a side for this competition and some performances have been a bitter pill to swallow however this year has been fantastic. Allowing the juniors to play instead of bringing in guest players has paid dividends. To reach a semi final and almost win against a full strength first team with 2 Bradford League players is a remarkable effort. The support of all the club members who were down last night was amazing and the Piranhas ethic has definitely left it's mark.

For the last time this year

SNAP SNAP!!
