The Port Adelaide Rugby Club plays in the Golden Oldies tournament sponsored by Air New Zealand. Our team is the Port Old Pirates or POPS.


The tournament is for over 35's and competes in both the Air New Zealand Golden Oldies Rugby Tournaments and local and visiting teams. This mission statement of the Golden Oldies movement is to prompt rugby through Fun, Friendship and Faternity.

Our side POPS has been to several tournaments;
  • 1999 Adelaide Australia
  • 2001 Toulouse France
  • 2003 Brisbane Australia
  • 2006 Wellington New Zealand
  • 2010 POPS member went as part of the Cripple Crows to Sydney Australia
The next festival is in Japan in 2012.

MATCH ARRANGEMENTS
  • The arrangements for the matches to proceed are that sufficient players indicate their intention to play by 5:00 pm on the Monday preceding the match
  • RSVP by email or phone to Terry Hall: terry.hall@adelaide.edu.au or 0412 844 408
  • If insufficient players respond then the match will be cancelled and those who have responded will be notified on the Tuesday preceding the match.
  • The status of each match can be checked at the Adelaide University Rugby Union Football Club web site by clicking on Old Blacks.
  • Matches will be played under Golden Oldies rules and all players must be insured under the ARGO (Australian Rugby Golden Oldies) insurance scheme.
  • The Crippled Crows have this insurance for 2010; other players will be required to register with the South Australian Rugby Veterans before their first game and pay the fee of $45.
  • Kick off will be 12:00 noon sharp. Be there by 11:30 am to register and warm up. The matches will be followed by a BBQ and drinks at the club bar.
