Portishead collected 3 more points this Thursday with a strong performance against Winscombe. Playing up the slope in the first half they dominated possesion early on and nearly took the lead when Will Payne curled in a free kick which hit the crossbar. Winscombe were playing some neat football but failed to convert this into goalscoring opportunities. Portishead took the lead after 30 minutes , James Playford
cut in with the ball from the right wing only to be brought down in the box, George Shanks Boon then smashed in the resulting penalty. The goal gave Posset renewed confidence and 5 minutes later Ben Earle went on a mazy run eventually finding James Montgomery who shot past the Winscombe keeper.James Playford
nearly added a third just before half-time but was unfortunate to see his shot crash back ofF the upright
Playing down the slope in the second half Portishead again pressed the Winscombe defence and were rewarded when a fine through ball from Ryan Crouch found centre forward James Montgomery who slotted in his second of the evening. The roles were reversed 10 minutes later as Montgomery set up Crouch for the fourth goal of the game.Portishead took their foot off the gas after this, but still created several chances which could have increased their goal tally on the night. To their credit Winscombe never gave up and scored a deserved consolation goal 5 minutes from the end. Portishead, however ran out worthy winners.
There were many fine perfomances troughout the evening, Stand outs were Connor Hill, and Connor Higman
who put in strong perfomances in defence, and Will Payne and Ryan Crouch who dominated the midfield battle.
Man of the match , as voted by the players , was James Montgomery who took his goal tally to four goals in two and a half games since his transfer to Posset from Manchester
