Jordan Nicholls awarded the Smith trophy as Cliff and John given special commendation

This years PAFC awards evening took place at local Stoneham Pub and Pizzeria in a special event which recognised the efforts of two of Portslade's most prominent figures.

John Aylward steps down as Portslade president after 39 years of service and Cliff steps down after 15 years as chairman. No doubt big boots to fill, but as the club says goodbye to the no doubt club legends, it says hello to the future, celebrating the achievements of some of our younger players.

The Smith cup, an award synonymous with the clubs fabulous history is awarded to a player who has demonstrated sterling improvements, or best newcomer. An award normally awarded to a player in the first team was this awarded to second team defender Jordan Nicholls. Only 20 years of age sometimes showing much more maturity than his age suggests.

After a difficult season, Darren Tai demonstrated excellent attitude and consistency as he continued on his excellent form from the second team last season, as he bagged manager's player of the season, while Adam Steele impressed his fellow players picking up players player award. Top scorer was tight in the first team with three players on 6 goals, but in a replication of last season, it was again awarded to Steve Mould.

Although the second team also struggled throughout the season, there was never a dip in the spirit of the squad, who never let heads dropped and strove to represent the club admirably. Just like the first team, attitude and consistency helped Nick Samuels collect the manager's player of the season, while Giles Ward was fittingly awarded player's player of the season, in his last season with the club, a career which spanned many years and appearances.
