A lovely evening was had by one and all at the Annual Potters Bar CC presentation evening which took place on Saturday 19th November.

With the BBQ and a good few beers to boot the awards went as follows: -

1st XI Player of the Year
James Scott
The new 1st XI captain who took over the armband from Len Cooper had with that extra responsibility had his best year with the bat, striking 657 runs at 41 hitting a majestic 157 at North Mymms, followed that up 3 weeks later with 101* against Totteridge Millhillians and then played a large part in Bar's win with 118 at home to Botany Bay.

2nd XI Player of the Year
Luke Owers
Sadly Luke couldn't be there to accept his award but his all-round performances for the dinkies ensured a good season and a timely reminder to how valuable a cricketer he is in that side after a poor trot of injuries. All of this was on top of the excellent first year of him running the youth element of the club

3rd XI Player of the Year
Ajith Walallawita
Ajith deservedly won the 3rd XI player of the year award due to his destructive batting that kept the 3's in the division. The Inspector scored 491 runs at 44 all with the biggest smile on his face and as always was a shining example top all who enjoy playing their cricket.

4th XI Player of the Year
Sanjay Sharma
The first full season for this young man and he plundered a good few runs for the 4s averaging as high as 45 which in the limited overs stuff seen down at that level is no mean feat. He also chipped in with a decent tally of wickets as well making him a vital cog in the 4's

Club Person of the Year
Ajith Walallawita
Ajith has been with the club for years and has gone from playing in the 2's, through to the 3's and 4's when available and has been nothing other than a gentleman in all his time. He has brought his son Thilan into the fold and with his support, T is on the verge of playing the game properly. In addition he has harnessed the local Sri Lanka community and made their transition into the club as seamless as it gets.

Ajith has been there to support not just Thilan but the 1st team when they've been in action and his sheer love and enthusiasm for the game is something that should be bottled and sold as it can be sorely lacking in so many.

The colts section had their awards at the same time but sincere apologies as my co-correspondent missed all the fun of the fair early on.

So that's it for another year. Winter nets start in the New Year, fixtures out around then so until that time - go well
