Rocks Draw After Being 2-0 Up

oth Jimmy Muitt and Ben Ward-Cochrane were on the double as the Scholars very own super sub changed the flow of the game in the second half to gain a point when Rocks were 2-0 ahead.

Richard Gilot and Harvey Read both got starts in centre midfield and defence respectively as Gary Chairman watched on from the stands with his left shoulder strapped up in a sling as the defenders injury crisis continued.

Early on Dernell Wynter ran through onto a prodded pass through defence but after sliding in, his attempt was saved bravely by Dan Lincoln on three minutes.

Jimmy Muitt ran through down the right flank but his cross couldn’t find Bradley Lethbridge in the box and then Joe Tomlinson was blocked with his attempt on the follow up following Mason Walsh's pass.

A left sided corner by the Scholars fell to Bradley Sach who had his back to goal but his shot was stubbed into the turf and hit straight at Lincoln.

Muitt pounced on the right flank again with his cross but Lethbridge headed it at the back post off a defender and it bounced out of play.

Following a throw in by Tomlinson it was Walsh that beat his man before cutting inside and hitting the ball on the rise off the outside of the left post from an acute angle on 11 minutes.

Gilot did well to win the ball back in midfield to let Walsh through and his low pass across the area was totally miscued by Lethbridge in the area, before Harvey Whyte smashed over from 25 yards soon after.

Goalkeeper Nikola Tzanev had to rush out of his area to head the ball out of play. But following the throw in it was Lethbridge who made his way across the defence before belting his right footed shot wide of the right post.

Tommy Scutt was clattered on the counter when Walsh, Read and Doug Tuck combined in their own half before setting Muitt on the way but he was called offside. But the referee brought it back for the Bognor freekick and James Budden went into the book.

Stefan Powell split the defence with his pass but Sach was just offside on 32 minutes.

Walsh put the ball through to Muitt to run onto on 33 minutes. He ran on beyond the defence to coolly slot the ball low past Tzanev and into the net and celebrated in style.

A twisting and turning Sean Bonnet-Johnson managed to get a shot away from around 25 yards out which almost caught Lincoln off-guard but he managed to stop the effort on 39 minutes.

Potters Bar stole the ball in the Bognor half with George Nicholas before it was passed square to Andrew Lomas but his low strike after some momentum, was blocked inside stoppage time.

HT 1-0

Lethbridge was brought off for Dan Smith before the second half kicked off.

Sach knocked on a square pass before it fell to Wynter who curled it high and wide on 48 minutes.

Walsh made a run into the box from the left and was tripped in the area by goalkeeper Tzanev who received a yellow card. It was Muitt who stepped up before curling it the opposite to Tznev's dive to put Bognor further ahead on 50 minutes.

Sach also went into the book for showing his studs in a sliding challenge on Tommy Scutt on 53 minutes.

Hard work from Walsh saw him pass the ball short to Tomlinson before he cut inside from the left before letting fly with a long range strike that bounced off the crossbar as it dipped at the last moment on 59 minutes.

Ed Sanders replaced Scutt on 61 minutes for Bognor and a minute later it was Ben Ward-Cochrane who replaced Sach who had received a booking earlier on for the Scholars.

It turned out to be a great decision from the Scholars dugout to bring the substitute on as he made an instant impact on the game for Potters Bar. Ward-Cochrane ran through following a bouncing goal kick as he sped through to slot it beyond Lincoln with only the goalkeeper to beat on 64 minutes.

Chris Doyle smashed it over for the visitors before Lee O'Leary was replaced by Keaton Cole on 68 minutes.

There was a stoppage in play as Tomlinson and Stefan Powell received treatment for a clash of heads. Both returned to play though.

Wynter's low strike committed Lincoln into a low save after he quickly controlled it on 72 minutes.

But during a great spell for the visitors Powell hit one from distance and it forced a wonder save from Lincoln to tip it onto the bar and it bounced back out as Rocks failed to clear their lines.

It was Sean Grace who belted it back at goal low and beyond a diving Lincoln on 74 minutes to go level.

Ward-Cochrane played the ball across the box on a plate for Wynter but his turn and shot rolled wide of the right post taking a deflection as Bognor had to deal with yet another corner.

Lincoln had to tip over Powell's corner kick. Then Lincoln was again the saviour from the following corner as he got down to push away Sean Grace's header from close range.

Lincoln had to gather another corner before throwing it out to Tomlinson who found Whyte with a pass. He threaded Muitt inside before he knocked it onto Tuck who smashed it over the bar from outside the area.

Jimmy Wild replaced Tuck on 86 minutes before Wynter was replaced by Mergim Qarri on 87 minutes.

Qarri was involved straight away as he cut a pass out wide on the overlap and Lomas hit the side netting after doing all the hard work.

Muitt did well to run onto a lost cause as Grace conceded a corner and kicked the ball away meaning a yellow card for him. But Muitt's corner was headed away as time ran out for Bognor.

The final whistle went on a game where Rocks will feel it was two points dropped.

They now go into Sussex Senior Cup Quarter Final action at home to East Grinstead Town on Tuesday 22nd January, 7.45pm kick off.
