Angels back to winning ways

By Jim Rowe

‘Parky’ and Joe find the net but strong performance from all the team

The current league leaders got back to winning ways with a deserved 2-1 win although they were made to work hard for the points by a well organised Potters defence.

Whilst enjoying more possession the home side carved out relatively few genuine chances in the first half although a Jack Richards low cross in the 21st minute was cleared off the line and three minutes before the interval Joe Turner and Richards combined well to set up Adem Ramadan but the effort just cleared the crossbar.

On the stroke of half time the visitors one real sight of goal saw Dernell Wynter’s effort just too high.

Angels went in front after just a minute of the second period when Tom Parkinson converted Turner’s free kick.

There was an immediate response from the Scholars however with Keegan Coles volleying his blocked free kick against the angle of bar and post with Eoin Casey knocking in the rebound for the equaliser.

Tonbridge contained to dominate possession and their efforts were rewarded on 72 minutes when Joe Turner forced his way through the Potters Bar defence and finished with a superb shot to restore the lead.

There was something of a response from the visitors but the home defence stood firm with ‘keeper Jonny Henly not called into serious action, and with the clock running down the Angels dominance was helped by a straight red card for Sean Grace for bringing down Tonbridge substitute Liam King when through on goal.

Afterwards, Angels boss Steve McKimm said: “I was very pleased with our performance today particularly during the second half when despite being pegged back immediately after our first goal, our heads didn’t drop and if anything we moved into a higher gear.”
