Late Casey goal gives 'Scholars' victory

A tense mid table clash in front of a good non league day crowd played in blustery conditions always looked likely to be decided by the odd goal.

The crowd of 244 witnessed an even first half with neither side producing much in the way of goal mouth threat. The highlight of the half came early as Bradley Sach rattled a free kick off the visitors post with the keeper stranded.

Marcus Elliott went closest for Lewes but fluffed his shot when through on goal and the teams went in at half time with the scores level.

The second half was a brighter affair as the wind died a little and players came to terms with the conditions. Omarr Lawson looked to have opened the scoring for the visitors but his effort was ruled offside by the referees assistant.

Chris Doyle went haring down the right wing to open up the Lewes defence but skipper Lee O'Leary was unlucky to have his shot blocked by the Lewes defence. On the other wing Dernell Wynter beat his man to put in a fine cross which just evaded the attempts of Bradley Sach and Eoin Casey at the far post.

With the game looking to be petering out to a draw Billy Adcock took control of the ball in midfield and struck a thunderous shot which 'keeper Lewis Carey could only push into the path of Eoin Casey who tucked it away neatly to give the Scholars the win the second half performance deserved.
