'Scholars' get the Blues

No reward for the effort made

A good crowd of 204 saw an entertaining game with both sides playing to win on another soft surface.

Again the ‘Scholars’ were slow starters after a long journey.

Billy Baird went down the right and put in a firm cross/shot that cleared the bar but the home side had settled first and took the lead when Cemal Ramadan fired Bury into an early lead on 9 mins, a corner in from Tevan Allen was met with a solid strike from Ramadan and Chris Doyle tried to clear off the line but could only help the ball in to the back of the net.

This woke up the visitors who began to get a fair share of the ball and started to test the home keeper. Sandro Costa forcing one good save.

A good ball in from Lee O’Leary saw Sandro Costa break into the box and was tripped for a penalty on 21 mins and Michael Murray thumped home the equaliser from the spot into the left hand corner.

But 2 mins later Bury were back in the lead as Ramadan got his second goal after work from Ollie Hughes which saw him break in to the box and hit a shot which was too hot for Berkley Laurencin to hold and Ramadan scored on the follow up.

The ‘Scholars' should have equalised again on 34 minutes but Michael Murray put his shot wide from inside the box from a cross from Billy Baird.

The visitors finished the stronger side and it should have been honours even at half time.

HT 1-2

The home side saw less of the ball in the second half but were guilty of missing a couple of really good chances. As the game wore on the visitors push more forward and made substitutions in the last ten minutes.

A long range effort from Chris Doyle was pushed away for a corner. Sandro Costa was looking dangerous down the left and Eoin Casey was chasing everything up front.

But often the final ball was too elusive to count and when the efforts were on target the home keeper made good saves - especially in the final minutes when he recovered to block one shot from Sandro Costa and then another from Eoin Casey.

And the constant pressure in the last ten minutes went unrewarded and the ‘Scholars’ left empty handed.

So the 'Scholars' remain in sixth place.
