With two age groups on tour this weekend - U9 & U13, the only PBT matches this weekend were U16 EJA league match and the MHRML U18 League Cup Final.
I will supply an update once I know how the teams got on with their tours.
U18 League Cup Final
Harlow Town Hawks vs PBT
In a game between two even teams, that had already played out a 4-4 draw in the league, this game was always going to be difficult. The first half started and Harlow forced an early penalty after 3 mins, however the player put the kick well over the bar. A let off for PBT and they started to grow into the game. Ali looked dangerous running with the ball and with Henry & Jerry movement up top causing the Harlow defence problems. Henry burst through a couple of times but he could not quite find the right finish. 0-0 at half time.
Second half and changes made due to injury and squad rotation and the game became scrappy but Dan A introduction changed the PBT attack and it was him with around 9mins to go who collected the ball, went passed a defender and hit a rasping shot from 25 yards that hit the back of the net. 1-0 PBT. The temperature in the game suddenly rose and tackles were flying in. The referee issued a couple of yellow cards, one to each side. Then with normal time elapsed and the referee playing additional time, Harlow crossed into the box and managed to bundle the ball into the net. 1-1. On another day it could have been a foul on the keeper but not today. Frustration overflowed and before the game was restarted the referee issued 3 red cards - 2 to PBT and 1 to Harlow. 1-1 and into extra time.
With PBT down to 9 men and with players out of the game through injury it was going to be tough. Extra time was played out without any major incident and without either team scoring although Joe made a save and Harlow cleared the ball off the line at one point. Final score 1-1 penalties.
PBT went first and missed, the next 5 were scored meaning Harlow were ahead 3-2, PBT then missed again before Harlow scored their 4th to win the trophy 4-2 on penalties. Man of the Match awarded by MHRML went to PBT player Michael Thompson.
An unlucky defeat for Des and the team in their last ever PBT match before they go on to University. We wish all the boys and Des all the best for what the future holds for them next.
