FA Youth Cup and weekend results

Thursday September 7th

Saffron Walden 3 Potters Bar Town 1

The boys put up a spirited performance but were beaten 3-1.

When you take into account the opposition were all 18 yr olds (some playing in the seniors team) and our team were all from last years U16 team it was a good performance.

We looked to have scored first when Sachon tackled their keeper outside the box ( fairly but strong ) but ruled a foul. Crucial as they scored first goal almost immediately after.

We were 2-0 down after 23 mins, following a good run (4 missed tackles) and shot for the first goal, and then a good header from a cross, second phase corner, for the 2nd.

Second half and we were the better team, however conceded a 3rd before scoring the best goal of the game with a 30 yard screamer.

The boys pressed for more goals, but a very organised and experienced U18 team managed the game with fouls at critical times and the referee missed a number of incidents.

Good experience for the team and management, ready for next season.

Weekend of 9th & 10th September results

U14 PBT 4 Cheshunt 2

U15 PBT 3 Waltham Forest 0

U18 Biggleswade United 3 PBT 0

Match Report U12 – MHMRL Purple Div – Letchworth Garden Eagles Whites vs PBT Scholars

Well done to the home side for winning this game 3-1 and in particular to one outstanding player than run the show for them. We need to think hard on how we would handle this type of player in the future and we also need to quickly adapt to differing playing surfaces. It would fair to say that we were impacted by a late KO time of 2.30pm, a 45 minute drive and an indifferent playing surface which hindered our pass/move football. The pitch was the same for both teams, however, they would have played many times previously and was a clear advantage for them. However, we never really got going with an average performance, but we never stopped working or trying – we never gave up. We did have quite a few chances but we did not have the run of the green which just held the ball up, and could not kick the ball cleanly whereas the home side did. Letchworth scored 3 decent goals and 2 were crackers from the edge of the area that our man of the match Freddie could not get near to. Freddie was our shining light with many other saves and came out a few times to stop their speedy players in their tracks. So pleased for Ellis to get off the mark with a trademark finish and really pleased with the strong display of Luca who really did make a difference when he came on. We have learnt a lot from this game playing vs a team we have never played before and the type of pitch we must learn to play on. We will try to put this right when we play next Sunday vs another new team Chars and will be on the quality home surface of Dame Alice at decent KO time10.45am. We appreciated again the same great parent support that we always have.

U12 Youth Bengeo 1 PBT 1
