Another well earned point

Moving swiftly on

A crowd of 271 for this Thursday night encounter witnessed a high intensity - low on quality - game where both sided gave their all in search of three points.

But ultimately it was a game dominated by two well organised resolute defences - a tight high tempo battle in the midfield - where each team denied the other time and space on the ball - and forwards looking for scraps of opportunity but restricted to only a couple of half chances each - so no surprise it was goal less.

The game was only marred by an average performance by the referee in a game that was hard but fair but he saw reason to book eight - including five for the visitors.

Berkley Laurencin made a good block in the six yard box but was never tested otherwise.

Ben Ward-Cochrane was lively up front - chasing everything down - as the ‘Scholars’ looked to nullify the Swifts in midfield and catch them on the break.

Ben and George Nicholas combined on two occasions to unlock their defence but were closed down each time.

The second half was no different.

Berkley Laurencin made a good save down to his left but that was about all the opposition created - there were times when they dominated possession but could not unlock the ‘Scholars’ defence.

Sandro Costa Dias Fernandes saw more of the ball in the second half and always looked dangerous until blocked by a swarm of defenders. Ben Ward- Cochrane was again able to get behind their defence on a couple of occasions but usually the angle was too tight and the home keeper was able to deal with his efforts when on target.

The industry in the midfield from Billy Adcock, Jordan Lawal and Lee O’Leary did not go unnoticed and there were breaks down the flanks from Sandro and George Nicholas and Ben Ward- Cochrane worked his socks off leading the line.

The defence was its usual meanself and rock solid - Sean Grace and James Budden commanding in the air with the full backs Steve Brown then Will Wambeek with Andy Lomas working hard to shut them down on the flanks.

Ultimately a well earned point off a team destined for the play offs.
