'Scholars' lose out to 'Tanners'
Narrow defeat in first game against Leatherhead
A hard fought game in which defences excelled saw the visitors run out winners thanks to a first half goal from Robert Cullen.
A hectic first half saw much of the action concentrated in midfield with both keepers rarely troubled.
The deadlock was broken on 24 minutes as a run from D'Sean Theobalds caused havoc in the Bar defence with Cullen taking advantage with a well struck shot past Laurencin in the Potters Bar goal.
The Scholars pressed forward in search of an equaliser but it was the Tanners who almost doubled their lead on 36 minutes with a Travis Gregory shot crashing back off the bar with the keeper stranded.
Potters Bar started the second half brightly with Billy Adcock and Sandro Costa combining well only for Sandro to curl his shot inches wide of the post.
George Nicholas had a great chance following a spell of Potter Bar pressure but was unlucky to see his header land on top of the net with some of the Bararmy cheering an equaliser.
Sandro Costa beat the offside trap but couldn't beat Tanners keeper Zaki Oualah who produced a fine save to deny the oncoming forward.
Substitute Eoin Casey almost nicked a leveller with five minutes remaining but his effort was saved with the ball falling to Adcock, his shot was also blocked and ensured that despite a spirited second half performance Bar failed to produce the equaliser they surely deserved.
