2nd XI Return To CDCA Div 3 After 3-Season Absence

Changes in league rules allow reserve sides to return to local pyramid structure...

A motion was passed at the GCCL AGM in October 2011 allowing reserve teams to resign from the Gloucestershire County League, provided that they remain within the local cricket pyramid structure. The CDCA falls into this category and Poulton have therefore had their application to return the 2nd XI to the league accepted.

The team will start back in CDCA Division 3 in 2012, ironically 4 years after they left having won the 3rd division title in 2008, after the 1st XI's promotion to Division 1 of the GCCL in the same year resulted in the 2nds having to join the same league in Division 9.

The 2nd XI enjoyed relative success during their 3-year exile with two 3rd-place finishes and one promotion, but travelling to the farthest flung corners of Gloucestershire proved a headache, particularly when there were up to 9 under-18s in the starting XI!

It was therefore no surprise when the club voted unanimously at the recent AGM to take advantage of the new ruling and return the club to the more local league. The list of teams that the 2nd XI will be playing in 2012 is as follows;

Minety, Charlton, Ashton Keynes, Central Hall, Cricklade, Tetbury, Avening & Cherington, Slaughters Utd, Cirencester, Lechlade and Badminton.

Matt Genever and the rest of the boys will no doubt be setting their sights on promotion again this coming season, to try and earn the club their rightful place in CDCA Division 2 as they had done back in 2008.

Fixtures to follow when they become available...
