PRENTON RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB

Prenton Rugby Club is an amalgamation of Old Rockferrians (Formed in 1928) and Old Instonians (Formed in 1928) Rugby Clubs. We have been playing rugby at our Prenton site for over 65 Years.

Prenton is a mature residential area consisting of both privately owned houses and council houses.

Wirral Borough Council (WBC) has a playing pitch strategy dated 11th December 2017 which has identified that Prenton, Claughton & Oxton there is a shortage of 3G /4G Pitches; 2 mini match sessions for football; 16 Rugby match sessions; and a need for artificial hockey pitches.

The former Pershore House Playing Fields in Prenton which was designated as a playing field under WBC Unitary Development Plan has been sold for residential development.

The present facilities are dated and are badly in need of refurbishment. We have noticed a decline in our membership which has had an impact on the club’s finances. We believe that new facilities will attract new members and secure the future of the club.

Many of our members are from the local area.

The club has been utilised by both Glenavon and Arrowe Park Blades Junior Football Clubs although not as often as we would like due to poor drainage on our training pitch. This problem will be resolved by the installation of a 3G/4G pitch. We also will make this pitch available for local children within the community.

The development we propose will also include a community hub. This has been welcomed by Prenton Tenants and Residents association who wish to utilise the facility as a focal point for all residents. We are looking to embrace all local residents by offering a facility that is clearly needed for the area.

The project has the full support of our local councillors: Fire Services; Merseyside Police; Prenton Primary School and many others.

In summary the new facility will not only ensure the sustainability of Prenton Rugby Club, But also benefit the wider community of Prenton, for now and the immediate future.
