Academics vs Merseyside Police
Report by Alex Babb
Saturday the 9th of September saw the academics first home game of the 2017/2018 season. As the new boys to the league we hoped to set a precedent and show the league that coming to Prenton Dell road, prenton would not be an easy journey. This week we were up against the Merseyside police force. A formidable opponent, we'd heard rumours of their skill and passion for the game and we knew that a strong team was required in order to stand a good chance of playing a competitive game. With the police force arriving with a few short of a full team we agreed to have a game consisting of a 12 V 13 a side game. It was clear from the off that the police force would not let this 1 man deficit affect their performance and hit every point of contact with ferocity. It was not long however until the academics went over the try line for the first try of the game. After a further try from the academics the police responded with a quick try of their own. And it was still game on. The discipline of the academics did not falter and with the help of a few of the prenton faithful we were able to score more tries in quick succession. Highlighted by the academics Sam Lewis catching the ball from kick off and slicing the police lines untouched to score under the posts. The academics were able to further extend their lead to end the full time score at 90-12. A fantastic first home game result and a real statement to the rest of the league that a trip to Dell Hell will be formidable. MOTM's Sam Lewis and Mason Tyler Holland.
