Raging Bull Plate 2nd Round ( 21stJan)

PRENTON 2nd XV 13 vs COLLEGIATE 10

This cup fixture was changed to a home game for Prenton, as Collegiate’s pitch was unplayable. Playing with the advantage of a very strong wind in the first half, Prenton put in a great performance. Collegiate had a strong side with big forwards, but Prenton’s tackling was supreme. The young ones – Steve Clewloe, Sam Johnson and Kyle Jackson led the way in their great tackling. Steve Clewloe playing out of position in the centre had a great game. Barry Horton scored the only try from way out wide, and he had his magic kicking boots on as well, with this conversion, and 2 penalties. They were all difficult kicks out wide, against a swirling wind, and he didn’t miss. Well done Barry.
In the second half Prenton had to defend against a very strong Collegiate side who were camped on Prenton’s line for ages. They used their power to gain 2 tries. Prenton however defended like crazy and kept on to their winning score line. Prenton now play Lymm 4th XV in the next round of the Raging Bull Plate Competition.
The game was enjoyed by the spectators as well, as a fine example of flowing rugby, powerful rugby, and skillfull kicking. A special mention must be made of the referee Pete Evans who was applauded by both sides for his firm control.
