U11s travel to TNS

Following a run of 3 defeats, Town arrived back at the scene of last seasons 'performance of the season' which saw them run out 4-3 winners after a dramatic final quarter.

With the weather threatening to turn for the worse and a squad short of the Quadruple threat of Alfie Mathews, Ben Preater, Aaron Smith and Sion Davies, Town gave debuts to triallists Jaden Smith and Jake Evans.

Playing an unfamiliar 8 a side, offside law and no back pass it was a lively start for both sides as both keepers were called into action. There was a noticeable physical difference between the two teams with the hosts using this to their advantage. Town stood firm coupled with the exquisite handling of keeper Jaden Smith which was carried on throughout the match. Town forced several chances themselves with Zak Williams, Ieuan Jones and Zack Jones all going close including hitting the woodwork. Jack Jones was typically dynamic creating much of the visitors attacks. Unfortunately neither side could quite force the ball over the line as the first quarter ended 0-0.

Changes were made in the 2nd quarter as Town introduced Ryan Gizzi, Rhys Butler, Alex Woodhead and debutant Jake Evans. The hosts started quickly and asserted themselves over the 20 minutes creating several chances as Town struggled to win and maintain control of the ball. Unfortunately for the visitors the first goal came as a result of a misguided cross which looped over the helpless Smith which the keeper really did not deserve. This seemed to knock the confidence of Town as 2,3, and 4 followed quickly as they struggled to match the physical strength of the hosts. The quarter eventually finishing 4-0.

Changes were again made for the third quarter which saw Town get onto the score sheet albeit fortunately as a long range effort from Jack Jones got a slight deflection which took it passed the impressive TNS keeper. With Town showing a renewed confidence, the hosts struck immediately to restore their 4 goal advantage following hesitation in Town's defence. Again Town bounced back with Zack Jones elegantly curling the ball over the home keeper to make it 5-2. Unfortunately for Town, the hosts were not to be denied as number 6 followed which ended the 3rd 20 at 6-2 despite Town hitting the woodwork for the 2nd time.

A big effort was requested for the final 20 mins but again it was the hosts desire to win the ball and power that brought number 7 as Town appeared to run out of ideas. The last 10 mins brought the final changes which saw Joel Giblin hit the post for the 3rd time as Town's luck did not seem to hold. With minutes to go Debutant Evans found himself with the easiest of finishes following good work from his teammates. The score finally finishing 7-3.

The performance was a much improved effort following a run of disappointing displays against a physically strong outfit although Town could not match it in some areas.

Next up for Town is Conwy Borough at home who will be keen to avenge the 2-0 defeat in October.

Man of the Match, keeper Jaden Smith has set the standard as Town will look to get back to winning ways at Bastion Gardens.
