Prestatyn Town Youth vs Abergele 18's
League Match 11.

Sunday 16th April 2017.

Prestatyn Town Youth looked to continue their tremendous run of form at Bastion Gardens against local rivals Abergele on Sunday, the young Seasiders were aiming to apply more pressure at the top of the table and continue to stretch their unbeaten run to 16 games. Having already booked a North Wales Coast cup final slot in May and virtually guaranteed a semi final place in the league cup, a solid win in this match would keep the dream of an unbelievable treble alive.

Prestatyn started the game brightly and caused Abergele a number of problems from the kick off. The Midfield quartet of Elliot Lloyd, Aaron White, Sam Lunt and Nathaniel Hulme were moving the ball quickly and darting between the Abergele midfield with pace and seemed to be first to the lose ball whenever it presented itself.

Within the opening 5 minutes Connor Beattie latched on to a slick move and poked the ball past the helpless Abergele goalkeeper to the score.

Prestatyn didn't settle on this opening goal and within another 5 minutes Connor had added his, and the teams second with a powerful header after meeting a fine ball crossed in from the right wing. Connor proving a massive threat, almost had his hat trick moments later but was denied by the offside flag. Macauley Adshead who was partnering Connor Beattie in the forward position nearly crafted himself an opportunity after side stepping 3 challenges in the box, and Nathaniel Hulme had the home fans stood up with excitement with a mazy run and shot, the Abergele goalkeeper however denying both opportunities with good hands.

Abergele couldn't muster a solid attack as the Prestatyn back four of Lewis Pierce, Calum Jones, Simon Mortimer and the ever influential captain Toby Sylvester shut down most attempts comfortably, leaving only half chances for the opposition forwards and very little to trouble Town goalkeeper Josh Ablett.

Despite the promising start, the tempo began to dwindle and without doing very much wrong Prestatyn seemed to settle for holding the ball and making Abergele chase instead of aiming to deliver the knock-out blow.

The whistle drew the half to a close with Prestatyn looking comfortable and 2-0 ahead.

The Prestatyn changing room was shaken up and the players were instructed to inject pace, urgency and some passion into the game. From the restart they began lively once more.

Max Dilworth and Calum Williams replaced both fullbacks and had instant impact injecting pace with their fresh legs in the wide areas. It was however through the middle where the next goal came from.

Sam Lunt collected a ball in the central midfield area, side stepped a tired challenge before unleashing a venomous strike from 25 yards leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Prestatyn didn't sit back this time, and like sharks smelling blood in the water pressed forward, Elliot Lloyd lost his marker in the box and latched onto a fine cross with a well timed volley to send the score to 4-0.

David Hobson replaced Aaron White and the Prestatyn side shuffled Toby Sylvester into the attacking midfield role. The management were instantly rewarded for making this change as Toby capped off a fantastic all round performance by hammering home not one, but two stunning strikes from outside the box, sending the score to 6-0.

Jack Naughton was introduced to the game late, the popular and experienced goalkeeper was a deadline day signing and although short on match practice made a brave challenge moments after coming on. Josh Ablett who is also a pacey striker as well as a fine goalkeeper got his first opportunity to play outfield this season and impressed instantly, latching on to a stunning long ball, leaving the entire Abergele defence in his wake, and capping off a fine solo effort by rounding the Abergele goalkeeper to walk the ball in to the net for the teams 7th goal.

The final whistle went moments later sealing the score line at 7-0.
