The Club originates from the roots of Preston Lodge School formed in 1924 – a connection that has remained very strong to this day.

Preston Lodge currently fields 3 adult teams with the 1st XV participating in National League Division 1 of the Scottish Rugby Union leagues. Over the years, many players from Preston Lodge have gained representative honours at international level across all age groups. At present, two former PL players, Scott Murray and Allan Jacobsen both now of professional club Edinburgh Gunners, form part of the current Scotland squad.

PL has one of the finest club rugby pitches in the country called “Pennypit Park” and has played host to a number of “A” internationals and representative matches. The Club also has a strong following of local fans.

There is strong tradition of youth rugby at Preston Lodge with Colts (Under 18), midi (secondary school) and mini (primary school) rugby all being played. At present PL has approximately 80 mini rugby members ranging from ages 5 to 11 who turn out in all weather each Sunday morning at the Pennypit.

Over the past four years, PL have supported two of our promising youngsters through an “SVQ in Community Coaching” supported by the Scottish Ruby Union. This move has encouraged local primary school children to enjoy rugby, thereby benefiting the Club and the children in the longer term.

In 2006 PL took the bold step of employing a full time Club Development Officer. This was a bold and ambitious move by the Club but shows a willingness and commitment to return to the very highest levels of Club rugby in Scotland.

The PL rugby tradition is strong and enduring and a dedicated team of coaching and support staff work hard throughout the year to develop all aspects of the Club's rugby and infrastructure.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pennypit sometime soon !
