Unfortunately PL could only raise 16 players for the game due to injuries and other commitments from players. On a plus note, the 2nds could call on the services of Graeme Patterson returning after injury and Ali Wood who started in the centre. The game started with uncontested scrums as Accies were unable to raise a front row for the game. PL started with a bang using their powerful runners Wood, scott rodgers and Gareth Henderson who made good ground causing panic in the home defence. Accies tried to throw the ball about but found themselves behind 5mins in, they were penalised for holding on and a quick tap by Patterson was carried on by the rejuvenated Barry Jones who was stopped just short. The ball was recycled and Patterson then fed Henderson who proved to be unstoppable from 5 metres out. Patterson converted. A few minutes later PL would extend their lead with a penalty. After the restart Accies showed why they were 3rd in the league, phase after phase they attacked PL, although some stout defence kept them out. A lapse in defence allowed the winger to score in the corner, which was converted. Accies tails were up and they scored another converted try again soon after.
PL rallied back, tactical kicking by Patterson kept them on the back foot, and on two separate occasions Jamie Irvine and Chris Guiney broke through only to be tap tackled when the try was certain. PL lost Ali Wood to injury causing a re-shuffle in the backs. Dave Mackie came on at fullback. The forwards were playing well Accies had no answer to the runs from Jones, Henderson and Rodgers and in defence Stephen Dixon playing at flanker never gave a inch. A move in midfield almost saw centre Mark Cunningham squeeze through the gap but he spilled the ball, again a try was certain. Half time approached with Accies leading 14-10

The second half was only minutes old when an off the ball incident would change the mood of the game After a 40 metre run by Rodgers he had to leave the field with a eye injury, thus leaving PL to play the remainder of the game with 14 players, and 7 forwards. PL did not back down and would dominate all aspects of the game for the next 30 minutes, line outs, drives, rucking all proved too much for Accies, Patterson's kick to touch from a penalty found Barry Jones at the back of the line out and he proved unstoppable to score the much deserved try. Patterson converted. Unbelievably PL gifted Accies a score to let them back into the game, Dave Mackie's quick throw from line out in his 22 put young Waldo Buckley under pressure from two opposition attackers, with no support the ball was turned over and Accies reclaimed the lead with a soft score. PL bounced back straight away though when a switch in midfield on halfway saw the ball spill loose. Dixon hacked it on and Chris Guiney had enough pace to outstrip the defence and pounce on the ball over the line. With the game coming to an end, a brief spell in the PL half saw Accies convert a penalty to level the scores but there was still more excitement to come. A series of infringements and a great chip and chase from scrum half Peter Johnston allowed PL to gain territory into the away team 22 and with a try similar to his first, Barry Jones claimed his double for the afternoon Agonisingly, Patterson's conversion bounced off the bar twice before falling short, only giving a 5 point lead to PL. Accies had other ideas, and with time running out and with the extra man advantage they put together a series of plays taking them up to PL try line, finally the pressure paid off as the big second row powered over, the conversion went over giving them a slender 2 point lead. Only minutes remained but PL again found themselves pinned on the Accies try line where Barry Jones forced himself over only to be held up. It was this play when the ref decided to end the game. Accies winning by 29-27

A huge thanks to Ross Galloway who stood in as hooker for the entire match (normally a scrum half) and Barry Jones’ two tries were enough for him to pip Stephen Dixon for the MOTM award.
