A fine display of fast, running rugby proves too much for PL to handle

Preston Lodge travelled west to play high flying Glasgow Accies on Saturday and once again it proved a trying afternoon in every sense of the word, as they came up against a team determined to maintain pressure near the top of the league by playing fast, running rugby that the men from the Pennypit just could not match.

The home side put on what was widely regarded as their best display of the season and the speed of their play along with safe hands and inventive moves enabled them to run in 12 tries whereas PL could only manage one in response.
Right from the kick off, it was evident that the Accies meant business and an over fussy Referee continually halted the play as judged PL offside on several occasions.
The first six tries came at regular intervals throughout the first half and PL could only manage one break out of defence when van Vuuren, Cliff Blair, Thayne and Ryan combined together to move the ball from their own 22 into that of their opponents.
The Accies midfield centre duo proved too much of a handful on too many occasions though and they were always on hand to maintain the pressure and keep PL on the back foot.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first and three tries were conceded in the first 10 minutes. However, the following 20 minutes saw PL stem the tide and they actually came much more into the game by fronting up to their opponents and the pack worked as a tighter unit allowing much more of the play to take place in the Accies half.
The consolation try was well deserved and well worked when a penalty was kicked to five metres and the resultant line-out won in textbook fashion. The pack bound together and drove to the line where hooker Calum Wilson was well protected by his colleagues as he safely carried the ball over for the touchdown.

The final score of 65-5 fairly reflected the amount of territory and quality possession that the Accies had but PL must now concentrate on the good passages of play that they managed as they face teams lower down the league over the next few weeks.
