Heys open Cup campaign with a draw
Tierney goal earns a point in disappointing performance
Heys opened their Atherton Charity Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Pennington at Grimshaw Park tonight.
Jon Lyons' side will be happy to have got the point after a disappointing performance in which they rarely pieced together the kind of football that characterised the pre-season friendlies.
From the outset an impressive Pennington dictated matters and it was against the run of play when Paul Tierney gave Heys the lead on the half hour.
However, Pennington deservedly equalised through a Sykes goal before half time.
Although there was some improvement after the break on Heys part it was not until late in the game that they exerted any real pressure on the away goal and although they created some openings it would have been harsh, had they scored, on Pennington who overall were the better team on the night.
Jon Lyons will be looking for a marked improvement for Saturday's trip to Hindsford (2.30pm)
