Introduction of new coaching structure

Recently appointed RRFC Head Coach, Joel Sidney, introduces his new coaching team and provides initial thoughts on taking Risborough forward

Firstly, On behalf of the players and the club I would like to thank Andy for all his hard work and effort over the past 3 years, he secured back to back promotions, 2 Trophies and has gotten us to where we are today.

Secondly I feel it right to introduce our new coaching team;

For those who don't know me my name is Joel Sidney and I have agreed to take up the role of head coach after being approached by the committee a few weeks ago. I have over 20 years of playing experience at both club, representative and professional levels but unfortunately after 2 bruising seasons with Risborough, my body is giving up on me and injuries are becoming more frequent. It was always my wish to move into coaching and I am very honoured to have been given this amazing opportunity to move the club onwards into a new era.

Also joining me on the team is Gil Morgan, like myself, he brings a wealth of experience to the team with extensive playing behind him notably with Roslyn Park and most recently Risborough. Gill will be taking charge of our young and developing backline and we are very lucky to have such an experienced backs coach.

Our third coaching member most of you know, Damien Brown, who has agreed to take charge of our ever improving forwards. Damien has played for the Risborough since its inception and is a valued and respected player so the move to coaching is the perfect move for us, although he swears he is done playing for now, I keep asking him to pull on his boots as he is one of the most devastating runners the club has had. Damien will also be ably assisted by our newest member to the team, Chris Mccombie. Chris who incidentally is local to Risborough, is not only the chairman of Bucks RFU but also has over 40 years of both coaching and playing experience. Chris is supporting the team with his wealth of knowledge and will be helping us to move the team onto the next level.

I think you will agree that the committee have made these changes to secure the future of the club and I for one would like to thank them on behalf of myself, Damien, Gil and Chris for putting their faith in us.

Our first priority is to start to getting the results on the field and to prevent relegation for this season. Although recent results have been disappointing, we have made some continual improvements and the mood very much remains positive. Thanks for your continual support it means a lot to the players and enjoy the game.
