Welcome to U11 Mini Rugby at Pulborough RFC
At Pulborough the U11 age group is the senior age group in our Minis section where over 200 boys and girls between the ages of 4-11 train and participate in festivals with us on a Sunday morning.
We are always open for new players so please read on whether you are an existing member, potential new member or even just curious about how children are introduced to the game of Rugby!
Mini Rugby has been around for a long time, but has seen a significant increase in player numbers in recent years that can be traced back to when England won the World Cup in 2003. The RFU has developed a structure and framework for children’s participation in Rugby and this is followed by all Clubs who have Mini Rugby programmes.
This structure attempts to introduce children to rugby in a gradual way such that they are substantially playing to the full rules of the adult game by the time they reach Junior level at U15. The U11 age group is formed from players in Year 6 at school.
When and where we train
All PRFC Minis train at our Freelands ground on Pulborough Road between Storrington and Pulborough. Training for the U11 is between 10am -12pm every Sunday morning between the first Sunday in September (4 September 2017) and the last Sunday in April, with pre-advised breaks for Christmas and Easter holidays.
The U11 agegroup also have the opportunity to participate in the PRFC Minis Tour which normally takes place on the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. This is open to all players and parents.
What you need to bring
All balls / tackle bags and other equipment necessary for playing and training is provided by the club. All you need to bring are boots (studs should be rounded, and not have edges), be dressed for the weather, and bring a gumshield which is essential to take part in contact Rugby.
Every age group has its own coaching structure with a Head Coach, leading a team of Coaches and Team Administrators support. All of our U11 coaches have a child in the agegroup. Any help is always welcome across the club, and Coaches are supported through a variety of courses run by the club and throughout the wider network. All coaches and team managers are DBS checked, and Head Coaches and Team Administrators for each group are part of the PRFC Minis Committee.
Through the Mini age groups, the emphasis at PRFC is very much on development of skills, participation, teamwork and fun. As with all Clubs and players, we like to be successful when we compete but we do not structure ourselves to prioritise success. The club fully agree with the RFU’s position of removing competition from mini rugby but fully encourage competitive rugby every time the players participate in a game. Our focus in the U11 agegroup is on all players enjoying the participation and being able to play rugby in a constructive environment to develop their sporting and personal skills.
