Under 18's make it to the Area final for the fourth year in a row
The girls yet again delivered with a strong performance against an imposing Beccehemians side to reach their forth London and South East final in a row.
Whilst our normal match reporter is away enjoying the snow a quick report on the girls performance against Kent side Beccehemians. Taking a full squad of 22 girls they all played their part in a bruising and very physical game. We are fortunately to have strength in depth and against a strong side this really counts. We started well with pace and energy across the team which normally we leave for the 2nd half. We retained possession through a number of phases before our forward crossed the line with a driving maul. Louisa was the one that carried the ball over and after having the whole season out so far with injury she was delighted as were we to see her back to near full fitness. We continued to press and a number of infringements from Beccehemians resulted in a penalty in front of the posts and 'Fishy' duly obliged. It was one way traffic in the remainder of the 1st half with 5 minutes later an excellent backs move resulted in a try out wide for Lottie which was converted by 'Fishy'. The physical encounter was beginning to take its toll but it was the opposition feeling the pain with the 'hooker' then scrum half and finally the fly half having to leave the pitch. Boro continued with the flowing game and another multiple phased move saw 'Fishy' score in the corner much to her's and the oppositions surprise. Half time come with Boro 20 v 0 to the good.
Beccehemians were determined to make a game of it and come out fighting in the 2nd half moving several 'forward's into their backs with the attempt to punch a few whole's in the Boro defence. The second half become a game for the purists with 'scrum' after 'scrum' and Boro's normal flowing play was stifled by the change of tactic's by Beccehemians. Boro still however had a hold on the game and territory and eventually a chip and gather gave us possession in the 22 and the forwards played their part to enable the backs some space for Flo to pop over the line to make the game secure at 25 v 0. with changes being made throughout the 2nd half the fresh legs showed and Boro continued to press. Another period of concerted pressure and possession resulted in a Zoo try off the back of the pack working together and Fishy had the easy task of popping over the conversion to finish the scoring at 32 v 0.
It was great to see all players getting on the pitch and playing their part of one of the toughest games we have had this season. We now move onto the London and South East Final against Aylesford Bulls in several weeks time.
Congratulations and well done to all the Squad
