It's round 2 for Barca Ladies

It's round 2 for Barca Ladies image

Quedegley Ladies played their first round League Cup game today against AEK Bocco the same opposition from last week which was a 0-0 draw.

Team talk and pre warm up done it was time to prove to ourselves last week was a blip as our standard of football is higher than the result we got.
Quedgeley won the toss and elected the kick off, and what a start from the kick off Emmie Kelly started her run to their box Hannah H and Amy T passed the ball between each other and fed it through to Emmie who had a shove in the back but still managed to control the ball into the right hand corner of the goal 1 nil in under a minute.

The difference noticed in this game to last week was pressuring the opposition and more communication off the ball, Quedgeley were retaining the ball and when Becky A stepped out of defence she played the ball back to Becky cutting in on goal her shot was saved and Emmie was quickest to react to score her 2nd of the game.
Quedgeley won the next battle in midfield and the ball again was in Bocco’s area Emmie managed a shot and again this was saved but this time her strike partner Nay was on hand to get her account started 3 Nil.
When Bocco did break the defence was on hand to clear up, noticeable in this game that very rarely it was just cleared into the bushes space was being made and the ball was calmly passed out of defence through to midfield by Sophie, Nick, Becky A and Becky S.

Quedgeley were thinking about playing football today we had a few further chances but none were converted, until we won a free kick just outside their box, Becky A powered the ball into the box Emmie controlled and laid off to the right hand side for Stacy to get her first from a tight right angle.
15 minutes in and Quedgeley were 4 nil up Quedgeley took their foot off the gas at this point and there was a 15 minute spell of non pressurised football until the m idfield of Amy and Han started to take more control, we picked up our game again by palaying triangle passing. Bocco could not figure us out and Emmie and Nay were following up on every shot so Lewis and I were happy.
With 10 minutes left to play of the first half Rachel got the better of her opposition on the left and was cutting in on goal her shot went past the keeper but the angle on the shot was too much hitting the right hand post and rebounding out for Stacey to get her 2nd of the game and Quedgley’s 5th.

Growing in confidence our defence started to step up field for every corner won and on this occasion Nick G found herself in the dizzy heights of getting a shot off on goal from outside the box only for it to be saved by the keeper.
Quedgeley won one more free kick before the end of the first half Rachel curled the ball from the left only for the keeper to make a great double save as Han H was ready for the follow up.

1st Half Quedgeley 5 Bocco 0

In the 2nd half Quedgeley took 7 minutes to warm back up Amy T was the first to strike the ball with a long range effort but again saved by their keeper.
After this Quedgeley cranked up a gear and Nay managed to feed Emmie a perfect through ball for Emmie to get her hat trick on her return to competitive football- 6 nil. After this Amy T had another long range shot this time not as well controlled as it should have been and this curled way off target.
However her redemption came straight afterwards as we won a corner which she curled in under the keeper’s legs and was desperately attempted to be scrambled off the line however after discussion between the linesmen and referee the goal was awarded to Amy -7 nil.
Quedgeley won another free kick just outside their box and I was ready to write goal Han H as she would never normally not take the shot however she chipped the ball over their defence for her midfield partner Amy to tap home her 2nd-8 nil
Quedgeley stayed in control of the game from here utilising Donna in goal for the pass backs when required Sophie and Becky in defence were taking turns to step up with Nick and Becky A helping create space for our wingers and midfield further up field.
When space was free on the left Rach made her darting runs past their oncoming players and feeding the ball across goal on the 2nd attempt at this Emmie reacted quicker than Bocco’s defenders and got her 4th of the game-9 nil.

On the right Tekalla managed to figure out her opponent when she came on and fed the ball through to Emmie with 25 minutes left with her back on goal Emmie laid the ball off to Nay who shot and got her 2nd of the match- 10 nil.

Quedgeley scored their 11th with Rach getting her 2nd taking on 2 defenders and beating them then with only the keeper to beat slotted the ball past the keeper’s left hand side-11 nil.
We made a swap upfront and took Nay off (2 Goals and 4 vital assists/contributions) for Roo and in defence took Sophie off (solid game with patient tackling) for Bebs
Again Nick G ventured up field and took another long range shot she was unlucky not to beat the keeper who pulled off a fantastic save to tip the ball over the top of the goal.
Han H had a further chance form a free kick but the keeper won that battle and Quedgeley had further chances in the last 10 minutes through Emmie, Amy, Han and Roo (who was holding the ball up for midfield) I counted at least 5 with the post and keeper saving Bocco.

Overall this was a fantastic game to watch with a team still gelling but playing football on the floor and cutting the opposition apart, as one spectator said to the ladies after the match a bit like watching “Barca” play.

Well done on a great win safely through to round 2, let’s see this enthusiasm and commitment for the remainder of the season if we play like this then division 1 will be looming.

Any one not mentioned my sincere apologies there were too many instances to write down
