Mark Hawthorne and Barry Kirby donate £3,000 from the Gloucestershire County Council’s Active Together grant scheme.

On Saturday, QWFC were proud to unveil our refurbished Dugouts when Councilors Mark Hawthorne and Barry Kirby visited Waterwells sports centre to see the Dugouts. More than £5,000 has gone towards refurbishing and modifying the dug outs at the side of a football pitch in Quedgeley following a spate of vandalism. Joe Alps approached the County Council requesting a grant of £3,000 from the Gloucestershire County Council’s Active Together grant scheme. Mark and Barry visited Waterwells in November to see the spate of vandalism that had occurred and did not hesitate to agree to help.

Working in partnership with our neighbours; Hardwicke Enterprise, we spent the grant on refurbishing and modifying the dug outs at the side of the pitch and changing plastic panels to metal to make them more robust.

Joe Alps, club development officer from Quedgeley Wanderers said: “The club would like to thank Gloucestershire County Council and Councillors Mark Hawthorne and Barry Kirby for their generosity, help and support of this successful application. We are thrilled with the new dug outs,

In addition to giving players and coaches protection from the elements during games, the dugouts are also a vital community asset for dog walkers to sit on when walking their pups around Waterwells.
