Queensbury player-coach Andy Senior had to endure an agonising final ten-minute wait before a late penalty from wingman Scott Swann finally ensured their first Pennine League win of the season at home to Slaithwaite Saracens.

The hosts made a dream start to the PREMIER DIVISION clash with tries from Joe Langford and Ben Naylor, which together with a Swann conversion, put them in charge of events.

When hooker Charlie Gallagher added another converted effort just before half-time, it meant they went into the sheds 16-0 up.

Saracens came out with all guns blazing on the restart but Queensbury’s scrambling defence proved up to the task until the visitors finally made inroads on the hour mark.

Another converted effort made it 16-12 before the trusty boot of Swann sealed an 18-12 win in which prop Luke Cheney excelled throughout.
