At the end of the Northern innings I sought out Elliott Richtor - Dan's brother - to ask how he was. He told me Dan was making a return to cricket after a gap of four years and was playing that day in only his third match of the season for the fifth team at a nearby ground. Off I waddled. I was not many minutes at the ground before making contact with him .
Since returning to OZ he quit cricket in 2007 in order to devote more time to his hobby as a DJ. Along with another Gordon 2nd grade cricketer James Hoskins - when Dan played for Radcliffe, James played for Kegworth in the Leics Premier and did exceptionally well- they spent 4 years travelling around DJing.
Earlier this year Dan decided to pack it all in and obtained a proper job working for a Pay to View TV company. He recently decided to start playing cricket again and responded to a request from Gordon whose 5th Grade team were short.
I watched the fifth team play and was surprised at the attitude, commitment, cricket nous and standard which I considered to be similar to SNCL division/D/ E.
With neutrally appointed umpires, two scorers and an on site groundsman the game had a good feel to it. Dan looked a little rusty but played a number of good cover drives and bowled a few steady overs. With practice and a some decent scores he aims to progress through the sides to the 2nd grade at least. Chairman Dan
