Wincanton Town 0 v 4 Radstock Town

Radstock travelled to second place Wincanton on Saturday looking to move back up the table after dropping out of the top four because of postponements.
The visitors side had a familiar look to it but with Ryan Child absent because of work commitments the ever versatile Luke Ingram moved into a central midfield position with Callum Taylor returning to centre half alongside Scott Gregory.
The home side started the more positive and had two early opportunities to take the lead but somehow they managed to miss both when it looked easier to score but they were made to rue those misses when in the eighth minute the ever young Simon Millard found himself on the overlap and after getting into the box took the opportunity to smash the ball past the keeper at the near post.
The afternoon got worse for the home side when a Morgan Marsh pass put Rico Sobers through on goal and he duly dispatched the ball past the despairing dive of the home keeper.
Playing against a strong wind the home side continued to push forward and were threatening to force a way back into the game following a succession of corners but wasted the chances and in fact found themselves further behind in the twenty second minute when Jack Biddescombe found some space on the edge of the box and drove the ball into the roof of the net. It could have got a whole lot worse a few minutes later when Biddescombe was left in space again on the edge of the box but this time his shot smashed against the crossbar and spun away to safety.
It was a little surprising to both sets of supporters that there were no further goals to talk about during the break because both sides created but failed to take relatively straightforward chances.
Despite being three down at the break the prospect of playing with the strong wind at their back the home side would have still fancied their chances of getting something out of the game but the visitors were in no mood to surrender the points. The home side tried hard to find a way through but as the half went on Radstock's attacking process came to the fore and with Morgan Skipp's man of the match performance inspiring the side they looked the more likely to increase their lead and that is exactly what happened in the sixty second minute when following a cynical foul on Mason Harrison, Morgan Skipp stepped up to curl the resulting free kick over the wall and into the roof of the net.
Although the game was over as a contest the home side kept trying to at least reduce the arrears but in fact their pressing allowed Radstock to attack on the break and only some desperate challenges stopped them adding to their total!
A fine win for the miners on the road and three well won points which see them climb up a couple of places in the division.
