Rainworth opened their pre-season programme in fine style on Friday night with a 3-0 home victory over FC Bolsover.
The Wrens' overall display gave early cause for optimism among the Kirklington Road faithful, and manager Ben Marvin was delighted by both the result and the performance.
Home fans certainly had problems recognising the players in a completely new squad, but Marvin (pictured) said afterwards: "We put near enough two elevens out , a mix of experience and young lads, and although we identified a few bits that we need to work on we came through it well. We had the lion's share of the game, and although we missed a few chances early on the strikers eventually got themselves into the game.
"I was particularly impressed by the younger lads who listened and took on board what they were told.
"For a first outing with a brand new team with lads brought in from different places I am happy. Paul (assistant manager Paul Rockley) and I have been out watching and speaking to various players, and I think we have a nice blend of experience and youth.
"Most of the players who took part afre already signed on, while we are still talking to a couple of the more experienced lads, but they seemed happy enough and I'm hoping to get them sorted within the next few days."
The Wrens have two big challenges coming up. On Thursday night they entertain a young Mansfield Town XI, and that is followed next Tuesday by the visit of Evostik League Premier Division new boys Basford United.
