Rainworth MWFC entertain Mansfield Town at Kirklington Road on Saturday 4th July, 3pm kick-off for the ‘Green Energy Trophy’.

The close bond between the two clubs is well established, but that will be put on hold for 90 minutes on that Saturday when Rainworth look to retain the trophy.

Last season was one to forget with both enduring relegation battles and with it the inevitable managerial and personnel changes.

Mansfield Town’s Adam Murray has been extremely busy with signings in the close season and along with the return of crowd favourite Matt Green, has whetted the fans expectations for what is hoped will be a successful campaign.

Rainworth have turned to Julian Watts and Ady Smith, well known to the club, having guided the clubs reserve side to the league title in the final year before its disbandment, followed by a successful campaign with Shirebrook Town FC. Their recruitment has also included the return of a firm fans favourite Ricky Hanson as well as some experienced and exciting talent. Amongst them are a number of that talented reserve side who will be hoping to prove to the club that they should have been given their opportunity earlier.

The game on the 4th of July will be the start of pre-season fixtures for both teams and will give both sets of fans their first opportunity to see the ‘new look’ sides.

Whilst in the past meetings between the two clubs, the strength of Mansfield Towns XI has fluctuated between the Youth Team/Reserves with only a smattering of first team regulars, we have been assured by Adam and our former Chairman Mark Hawkins that Mansfield will be fielding a very strong side on the day, including ‘new signings’ and are definitely not contemplating losing.

In keeping with the goodwill between both clubs the prices have been set at Adults £6, Concessions £5 and U16’s £2, a bargain for football of this standard. It is hoped that fans will take this opportunity to preview their clubs new acquisitions in what is hoped will be the prelude to a successful campaign for both.

Put the fixture in your diaries, the wait for the football season to return is almost over….
