Rainworth have come a long way since that first training session in late June and the most pleasing factor is their style of play and commitment.
Against an AFC Emley side that had dominated the First division for most of last season, one could have been forgiven for thinking that with Rainworth having key players missing the task would prove beyond them.
On the night their replacements proved that they were more than capable of slotting into a team that is starting to develop into a competitive unit and the management team must take a lot of credit.
There is one last friendly remaining against Heanor Town next Saturday, before the season begins in earnest. Whilst there are still areas to work on the management’s biggest headache will be selecting the line-up for the season’s opener at Garforth Town.
