A Step Nearer
Rainworth moved into the hat for the fourth Round League Cup Draw, after a comfortable 3-0 victory at Rossington Main.
Rainworth's hopes of silverware, this season, were kept alive with a comfortable victory at First Division Rossington Main, in the 3rd Round of the League Cup.
As early as the 4th minute they squandered an excellent opportunity after Tomas Poole had run from the halfway line leaving defenders in his wake, but when his cross found Nathan Modest a goal was denied by an excellent block.
The opening goal came in the 19th minute when Modest outpaced the Rossington defence and as Dan Morton advanced from his line he was well beaten by the fierce drive.
Rainworth continued to probe and Poole was unlucky in the 36th minute when his effort flashed just past the outside of the upright with the keeper well beaten. Minutes later and only a great block on Ross Goodwin's fierce effort prevented the second.
Poole almost scored on 40 minutes when his cheeky free-kick beat Morton but went inches the wrong side of the upright.
At the half-time whistle, despite numerous chances, Rainworth only led by the single goal.
Rainworth brought on Jack Bennett for the injured Jack Waddle, but it was Rossington who started the second half on the front foot.
Rossington tested Andy Francis in the Rainworth goal in quick succession but he saved both. Rainworth made a second substitution bringing on Charlie Dawes for Alex Nightingale.
The game ended as a contest on 64 minutes when Poole's free-kick was headed home by Max Pemberton and in the 72nd minute they made their final substitution, bringing on Luke Walker for Poole.
Rainworth continued to threaten and in the 82nd minute Modest found Dawes who made no mistake for the third.
That was to be the final score in a match in which their goal had been rarely threatened.
