A postponement against Newton le Willows has meant Ramsey have been without a match for just under a month, however that all changes on Saturday when bottom side Wallasey visit the Mooragh Park in South Lancs/Cheshire Division 3.
Wallasey’s season has been somewhat disappointing. They have just one win and one draw from their thirteen matches however they are ten points adrift at the foot of the table following a ten point deduction for unspecified rule infringements which is likely to be player registrations. Their last outing was a draw against Birchfield on 17 December. Their home form has been pretty good, notwithstanding the defeats. There have been a couple of close games against quality opposition. No so however with Ramsey who won 42-5 on their trip to the Wirral back in September.
With everyone pretty much fit and available Ramsey skipper Dan Bonwick has an embarrassment of riches from which to pick. Dale Radcliffe’s hand appears to have recovered so he will be looking for a second row berth in behind the obdurate Michéal Flynn who has been the cornerstone of the Ramsey scrum all season. Ethan Benjamin and Dave Keenan look set to renew their partnership in the centres with skipper Dan Bonwick leading from stand off where he has been so effective all season after an injury sidelined Scott Kneale long term.
With home advantage, a firm pitch and a big post Christmas crowd, Ramsey must start as favourites to take maximum points.
