Match Preview

Ramsey face Ormskirk in Lancs/Cheshire Division 3 this Saturday at the Mooragh Park in what is starting to look like a must win game. The two sides last met at the Mooragh in October 2013 when they were both in the Division above with Ormskirk running out 44-11 winners. Since then, Ormskirk have had some mixed results and after a series of league reshuffles, now find themselves back with Ramsey again. The Lancashire side qualified third in their half of the competition but with a less than impressive record winning just six from fourteen. In phase two however they’ve won two from three and sit in third place while Ramsey’s start has left them next to bottom with nothing from two outings. The league looks to be incredibly tight however and Ramsey can still challenge at the top but need to start winning and soon.

Last week a rather mature looking Ramsey side almost took the game at Parkonians but ended up with nothing after a late Parkonians try denied them even a losing bonus point. This week however some of the missing players should be back into the reckoning. Jarred Callister, Ethan Benjamin and Dave Keenan could all be available with the potential of the gruesome twosome of Mark Oldfield and Anthony Fergusson also returning. Matty Meechan is expected to be tied up at work and Callum Clague who did such a great job at Parkonians, is not expected to travel over from university for the game. The Irish oak Michéal Flynn will lead the side out once again in a season where he has so far started every match.

With the home crowd to support them Ramsey will be looking for maximum points here but Ormskirk are a well coached outfit and will be difficult to break down.
