After being crowned champions of Lancs/Cheshire Three last weekend Ramsey take to the road for their final game of the season when they travel to second placed Ellesmere Port this Saturday. Ramsey have an unassailable nineteen point gap at the top of the table, while Ellesmere too are in an unbreachable second place. This assures that both sides will be promoted into whatever the league looks like next season. With neither team having anything to lose, we could see the ball being thrown around with abandon this week, although Ramsey’s title winning skipper Henry Swithinbank has told his troops that he expects a win and nothing less.
There will be some changes to the Ramsey team however. Iron man tight head Michéal Flynn plus hooker Matty Livesey are both attending a wedding so there will be places up for grabs in the front row alongside loosehead Adam Dunlop who is one of the unsung heroes of Ramsey’s title. Rory Nicholson, Jarred Callister and Neil Quayle all feature in the selectors thinking here. There is also likely to be a vacancy in the number ten jersey with Fintan Cummins rested. Dan Bonwick will fill in there with Dan Richmond at scrum half. Bonwick is replaced at centre where David the cat Keenan starts his first away game of the season and Mark Oldfield fills in the other centre berth for that other well known crash bang wallop merchant Matty Meechan.
Ramsey won the home leg 25-8 and with the title already sorted and Ellesmere secure in the promotion places, they may just take their eye off the ball and allow Ramsey to sneak an away win to round off their league campaign.
