Vale 2 Fleet Spurs 1 Mud 3

RPV keep up excellent League home from.

Raynes Park Vale 2 vs Fleet Spurs 1
CCL Div 1 . 2pm kick off.

It was muddy. Hard to play in but we still tried to play some football
and still managed to play nicely across the back.
Jordan Holmes was making his full Raynes Park Vale debut at right wing back
and had a great game. Reece Turner made some good saves and looked solid in goal.
Johann, Shane and Charlie Marus all had good games in the back 3.
Conor Turner looked useful when he came on.

We started well. Jack Williamson scored on 6 mins with a contol and run into box.
A low 10 yard finish from a Nathan Lewis headed assist. Jack is on a great run
of scoring with 14 goals from the last 15 games.

But after our 1st goal we seemed to switch off a bit, Fleet had more possesion
and eventually scored from a right hand side inswinging corner on the 40th
minute. Goal by Daniel Money.

Vale played better in the 2nd half and eventually Seanan Mckillop
scored a great winner. On 78 mins the ball almost came to a stop in the D, play seemed to stop.
Seanan sees the keeper off his line, puts his foot underneath the ball and lifts up. The Fleet keeper is lobbed as the ball drop just under
the bar. An 18 yard high chip scoop. Great Goal. An Eion Fraser flimflam step over assist set up the opportunity.

MOTM. Jerome Smart put in some heroic blocks but for a solid Centre Back performance MOTD goes to Shane McEntaggart.

It was muddy. Hard to play in but we still tried to play some football
and managed to play nicely across the back.

We won. Another 3 points and our 8th league win in 9.
Not bad at all but we still have some
real tests ahead as we begin to play teams in the upper half of the table.
Team and Squad looking good though. Very good.

Next game Saturday 18th Nov we are away to Deportivo Gallicia on the 3G at Bedfont Sports.

Below is a match report from a Fleet Spurs perspective.

Raynes Park Vale 2 Fleet Spurs 1 (Combined Counties Football League: Division 1)

This game was not a classic, but Spurs produced a decent battling performance, and would not have been flattered had they gained a point, as overall they gave as good as they got. However, they eventually were punished for being insufficiently clinical in their finishing as they fell to a well-taken late goal.

The visitors started badly, giving the ball away frequently and making defensive errors, and it came as no surprise when Vale top scorer Jack Williamson gave the home side an early lead, finding himself unmarked a few yards out and slipping the ball past Mark Appleby. The game continued in the same vein for the first quarter of an hour with Spurs looking vulnerable every time Raynes Park attacked. However, eventually the visitors settled down and began to play some good constructive football without really threatening Reece Turner's goal.

Then, as the game neared the break, Vale failed to clear a left-wing corner effectively, and Daniel Money crashed the loose ball high into the net for the equaliser for his third goal of the season, all against Vale. For the rest of the half, Fleet looked the better side, though without putting Turner's goal in any real danger. The half-time score of one-all was a fair reflection of the play.

Spurs continued on top after the break, and Calvin Grange soon saw a powerful long-range shot clip the top of the bar. In a mirror image of the first half, Raynes Park began to come back into the game, and it became clear that the next goal was likely to be the decider, and so it proved.

Eleven minutes before the end of normal time, the Spurs defence left Seanan Mckillop unmarked about 20 yards out and he cheekily chipped a nine-iron over the helpless Appleby for the winner. Even a grandstand finish by Fleet, which included sending Appleby up for a stoppage-time corner, proved fruitless.

Spurs remain in 13th place in the table. On Saturday, they entertain second in the table Eversley & California at Southwood (kick-off 3.00), and should be motivated by the desire to turn the tables on the club that inflicted on them a heavy defeat early in the season. If they can continue in the same fighting spirit and with the same constructive football as at times today, and at the same time find more of a cutting edge, they may be in with a chance.

Fleet Spurs team: Mark Appleby, Pete Lines, Adam Nash, Mike Bertoux (sub Lee Simpson 80), Victor Mudonhi, James Scott, Daniel Money, Tom Chillery (capt), Calvin Grange (sub Christopher Gibson 70), Sam Knowles (sub Dan Sleet 74), Lloyd Kirlew
