We fail to score for the 1st time in the League this season!
So after probably our best performance of the season in our last game where we beat 2nd placed Sheerwater, away, we follow up with possibly our worst away performance of the season losing 4-0 to 15th placed Kensington Borough. Or was it? Because Borough have improved as the season has gone on.
They defended well against us and they finished superbly. Seems like a few new players at the Kenbo.
We had loads of good possession in the first half but didn't make good use of it in the attacking third. We didn't manage to turn possession into shots, on or off target in the 1st half.
Kenbo scored with their first shot on goal on 8 minutes. Their number 9 Ahmed Jibz lobbing Reece Turner 1 from the D. Think Reece just managed to get an outstretched hand on it. A goal from nothing really. No worries I thought then. We'll get back into it, just a matter of time before we score one and go on to win I thought. Kensington Borough are 15th and we beat them 5-2 at home earlier in the season. This'll be easy. I thought wrong.
The Kensington 2nd goal came from a really good long midfield pinged pass from the KB No.6 out to the right wing No.7 Walid Hirsi who outpaced our left back Nathan Lewis with a quick burst of speed, ran into the box and shot low and hard into the left corner from about 17 yards. This was good football from Borough. Great ball, pacy run and brilliant finish. Again against the run of play but hugely effective and a bit of a game changer really. Have to say that Nathan is very rarely outpaced and was not slow in his pursuit of Kenbo winger Hirsi but he was quick. One of the best goals I have seen this season in the CCL. 2-0 KB then on 33 minutes.
Think the quality of the goal and being unexpectedly 2 nil down shocked us a bit, players and Vale spectators.
So again Vale go on the attack, trying really hard to get back into the game, Seanan Mckillop rounds a defender and the keeper but puts his left foot shot just wide of the post on 41 minutes.
Then right at the end of the first half in the 47th minute, Kenbo score again. 3-0. A killer blow. Came from a punted ball forward over our midfield into no mans land that fell to the KB number 9 Ahmed Jibz who lobbed Reece again for his 2nd of the match. A hard goal to defend as it all fell between the lines of play but a good lob and finish it was. A jubilant Kensington and a very dejected Vale trudge back to the dressing rooms at half time.
Vale make an attacking substituation putting Calum Forbes upfront with Jack Williamson and taking
off I think injured center back 5 James Curran with Eoin Fraser going to right back, Marcus Dowdeswell moving from RB to CB and Seanan Mckillop dropping back a bit into attacking midfield for a 4-4-2
RB EF8, CB MD2, CB DA4, LB NL3
RM JH11, DM JS6, CM S.McKillop, LM Ben Jordan
CF JW9 Calum Forbes.
We attack plenty in the 2nd half but not with much result. Jack Williamson heads over from close range from a Calum Forbes cross. We had a few more shots go wide or over. A few free kicks. Kenbo defence soak our attacks up and clear. On 81 minutes the useful Kenbo Number 6 central midfielder gets sent off for verbals I think after a clash with our centre back Danny Alderton. Danny gets a yellow card for a late tackle on the number 6. A bit of frustration creeping in after he recieves a cut on the leg.
Late on in the game the Kenbo number 9 Ahmed Jibz completes his hatrick with a very good low finish from wide right. His 9th goal in 8 appearences for Kenbo.
Kind of outplayed on the day I'm sorry to say but we have on the whole been playing better than this recently with 12 wins in the last 15 league games. Didn't play our best. Maybe we came into the game with the wrong mindset? I dunno, I certainly did as a fan. The players certainly tried hard that's for sure. Lets hope we can raise our game when we take on the high flying Cobham who visit us on the 13th Jan.

Kensington Borough groundshare at the Orchard, Bedfont and Feltham's nice ground right next to Heathrow Airport. 2 small stands of seats, either side of the pitch on the halfway line.
Plenty of parking and good for a quick getaway but somewhere in a dark recess of the Orchard is a large 4 foot, fibreglass, comedy/horror eyeball. Very strange. I kid you not. Kind of summed up our day.
