Win! Cove 0 Vale 3. 1st clean sheet of the season
Just what the Doctor ordered
Cove 0 - Raynes Park Vale 3. (Half Time 0-2) CCL Div 1
Sat 21st Oct 2017 3pm kick off
Weather. Very Windy
After a bad defeat midweek versus Worcester Park in the Esoteric Records Cup,
Vale needed a good performance and got one and also our 1st clean sheet of the season!
To be fair, Cove are still in a rebuilding stage as far as their team are concerned as they
lost their entire team to Hartley Whitney a few seasons ago. Safe to say they haven't been
pulling up trees this season but it was still a huge relief when we scored the first. Talking about trees, it
was very windy making play difficult as Storm Brian puffed its last. The boys still had to work hard for this win.
Seanan Mckillop, playing upfront in the space left by the departed Taryn Smith, rounded the
keeper on 20 minutes after a nice throughball assist from Calum Forbes for 0-1. He slotted nicely
from an acute angle which looked like going wide from certain viewing angles. But no, it nestled nicely
into the onion bag. One nil to us.
On 35 minutes, the same two players combined after a bit of a scramble in the Cove box with
Seanon managing to get a decent foot on the ball which Calum Forbes stabbed home from close range.
Cove were never much threat on goal and it was great to go 3 up on 72 minutes
as Seanan Mckillop again rounded the keeper, again on the left. This time our Jack Williamson put in
a very nice, defence splitting through ball assist.
So Seanan looked quite adept up front in an unusual position for him. He seemed to enjoy playing up top (said he had to run less) but scored 2 and made one so it was difficult not to give him man on the match. Hard on Seanon this time but the MOTM award went to our resident Frenchman Bertrand Marti-Pique who put in a calming performance in midfield. He seemed to have plenty of time on the ball and cooly passed and tackled in a classy display and got a very warm round of applause when he came off near the end.
Well it was certainly great to win this one after the nightmare of the Tuesday cup game and the defence and Tony was delighted to gain our first clean sheet of the season. Bonus points to Tony and the defence.
The defence was Eoin Fraser at Right back, Charlie Marus and James Curran at Centre Back and Nathan Lewis
at Left back. Well done boys.
Cove as a club is a fine facility with a very nice clubhouse and bar, good pitch and a separate training pitch.
More importantly the tea bar serves a cracking bacon roll. Yum.
Very nice people and great hosts. Thank you all at Cove FC.

Man of the Match:
hard not to give it to Seanan Mckillop who was a close 2nd.
Well played boys.
Our 1st clean sheet of the season.
Back up to 6th in the league.
Sad to see Taryn Smith had left for Epsom and Ewell in the CCL Prem.
Taryn scored 10 goals in 9 starts and really made an impact.
We wish him all the best and thank him
for his contribution to this season. It was a short stay, 7 and a bit weeks, but sweet.
I think his best goal was away in the tight game versus Chessington and Hook.
He announced himself on his 2 goal debut vs Cove on a sunny September the 2nd.
He also scored a hat trick versus Kensington Borough at Grand Drive.
Good Luck Taryn, probably will now start banging them in for E&EFC.
