Lammas get both double-barrelleds

Staines Lammas 0 - 4 Raynes Park Vale (0-1 HT)
Sat 17th March 2018, 3pm kick off
Combined Counties League Division 1

League position: 5th v 8th. Both teams still 5th & 8th after result.
Weather: Mini beast from the East. Absolutely freezing. Zero degrees - the wind chill. brrrr. Stupidly cold.

Vale played in away Yellow shirts, Red shorts and Navy stockings. Lammas were in all French Blue.

While England were getting hammered by the Irish in the Rugby at Twickenham on St.Patrick's day, Vale were setting about on what would prove to be one of our best wins of the season. From front to back, bench to subs, a fantastic team performance. Good flowing football in difficult conditions. Lammas had beaten us at home 2-0 on 6th Feb but today, we rocked.

A fine 17/18 season debut from Tom Harland-Goddard at centre mid and a great full debut from Louie Stanton-Cockle, full of effort, passion and creativity at LWB. Whips in a wicked left sided corner too.

Defence is starting to look solid. The centre back 3 of Nathan Lewis, James Curran and todays skipper Danny Alderton inspired confidence. In goal Reece Turner had little to do early in the first half such was our early domination but brought out a couple of fantastic saves late in the 1st to prevent us going in at 1-1. Seanan Mckillop was well on it today. Jack Williamson scored, again. His 23rd of the season, assist from Conor Turner. Jordan Holmes scored the first on 14 minutes from close range after some good footwork in the box by Conor Turner. 2 in 2 games now for Jordan.
Provider turned poacher on 78 minutes when Conor Turner latched onto a bad back pass and sloted the 3rd for Raynes Park.
Bertrand Marti-Pique came on as a 2nd half sub and scored a cracker from 20 yards out, low into the bottom left for our 4th on 85'.

Hard to pick out any individual as it was a superb team performance but Man of the Match* must go to Conor Turner. With a goal and two assists Conor caused Lammas problems all day long. Turner's 6th goal and 6th assist of the season. Great work CT.
*chosen by manager Gavin Bolger, chairman Paul Bentley & your reporter DT.

All in all, a fantastic result for the Vale. Our best in 2018 so far. Onward.

Notes:
We extend our warmest congratulations to skipper Jerome Smart, who's wife gave birth
to a little girl this week. Hoping Mum, baby and Dad are all very well.

Johann Kirsten made his 1st appearence back since 16th December when he injured an eye socket vs AC London
so wore a protective eye mask when subbed on at 80'. Great to have you back Johann.

Lammas do good match day programme.
Lammas do good boardroom Lemon drizzle cake.

Pic is of MotM Conor Turner, not at Lammas it has to be said but at Cobham earlier in the season.
(Apologies to Cobham CB & skipper Martin for inadvertant appearance #loveCCL)

Many thanks to all the dedicatated volunteers & crew at Staines Lammas for hosting us and for getting the game on.
